Note: This program is only open to current medical students, graduate students and physicians/professionals. Premedical students are not eligible.

This is a dire time for the transgender community. For example, think of the recent waves of gender-affirming care ban bills鈥攐r the legislative efforts to ban transgender people from sports. With a new White House administration taking over in 2025, the next four years will be a time of uncertainty in healthcare, especially for transgender people.

This course offers a safe environment for medical students to learn about transgender health. You will have the unique opportunity to learn more about the practice of gender-affirming care from experts and current practitioners in the field. You will also have the chance to build meaningful community and connections with mentors in the field and other medical students who are similarly passionate about this course material.

As future physicians, many of us will ultimately go on to care for patients who are transgender and/or gender-non conforming. Given the fact that transgender health is not currently adequately addressed within the state of our present medical education system, this course represents an invaluable opportunity to improve our ability to best support and maintain the health of our diverse patient populations.

- This Scholars Program will also invite you to examine your own assumptions about gender and gender identity. The more we, as physicians, explore our own biases, values and cultural assumptions, the more we can provide culturally humble care that can improve our patients鈥� health and wellness.
- If you are already someone who is passionate about gender identity, transgender health and advocacy, sexual identity and queer global medicine, this is the course for you! It is an opportunity to be introduced to leaders in this field and get a solid foundation in this rapidly growing topic.
