Fellows collaborate with ÃÛÑ¿appstaff and national leaders on projects related to advocacy, education, member engagement, and organizational initiatives, while strengthening leadership, communication, and project-based skills. The Director of Legislative Affairs serves as a central leader in advancing AMSA’s advocacy agenda, policy priorities, and external relations efforts. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role helps guide and strengthen the Association’s work across national, state, and local advocacy initiatives that affect medical students, healthcare, and the broader medical profession. The position is responsible for helping ensure AMSA’s advocacy efforts are strategic, organized, mission-aligned, and responsive to a changing sociopolitical environment.
In addition to leading advocacy strategy, this role works closely with student leaders, chapters, staff, and external partners to build engagement, support grassroots action, and expand AMSA’s influence. The Director of Legislative Affairs provides mentorship, develops advocacy campaigns, supports policy-related programming and events, and represents ÃÛÑ¿appin coalitions and with policymakers. This position is ideal for someone who can combine strategic leadership, relationship building, and member-centered advocacy to advance AMSA’s mission and values.
