I AM A LOOKING TO GO

Tibenna Fraser

International Trustee

Inspiration to join AMSA

I am inspired by AMSA’s commitment to empowering medical students to advocate for systemic change. I cherish being a part of a community of future physicians who believe that our responsibility goes beyond treating diseases. I saw joining ÃÛÑ¿appas my first step to begin developing as a leader in healthcare and towards understanding how medical students can work to bridge the gaps we see in community health and primary care. In my hope to serve as a pediatrician, ÃÛÑ¿appgives me the confidence to know that I can be part of meaningful change by advocating for better education, prevention, and access to care for the communities we serve.

Motivation to become a National Leader

I was motivated to become the International Trustee because the role truly reflects who I am and the path I have taken. I was born in Guyana, raised in Saint Lucia, began my premedical education in China, and after the COVID-19 pandemic continued my medical education in Dominica while completing clinical rotations in the United States and other Caribbean islands. Navigating the journey toward residency as a non-US IMG has come with many challenges, but it has also taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of strong support networks. Now, as I have learned so much and am nearly completing my journey through medical school, I am motivated to use the skills, perspective, and determination I have gained to support and advocate for other international students who hope to pursue the same path.
