Greetings from the 蜜芽appReproductive Health Project!

As we approach the close of February and Black History Month 蜜芽appcelebrates our annual Health Equity Week of Action (HEWA) and looks ahead to March celebrations marking Women鈥檚 History Month, International Women鈥檚 Day, and Abortion Provider Appreciation Day!

But, before we get to March celebrations, we are excited to tell you about a new regular feature we are adding to 蜜芽appRepro eNews that will highlight abortion care and reproductive justice truth-tellers and invite YOU to NOMINATE YOUR FAVORITE TRUTH-TELLER!

SPOTLIGHT ON REPRODUCTIVE JUSTICE TRUTH-TELLERS

We are pleased to share this new regular column in our 蜜芽appRepro eNews with you! Our goal is to lift-up key voices and organizations we trust to bring you evidence-based facts, ground-breaking research, and thought-provoking ideas to help you wade through the growing volumes of mis-&-dis-information out there endlessly vying for attention.听

We hope you will find this column a knowledge-building resource, and that you will find it a useful tool to engage others in dialogues to advance reproductive freedom for all.

Loretta J. Ross: Visionary, Activist, Public Intellectual, Professor & Reproductive Justice Truth-Teller

In this kick-off column we are delighted to highlight one of the Mothers of Reproductive Justice: Loretta J. Ross. The she helped develop is the guidepost for our work in the 蜜芽appAbortion Care & Reproductive Health Project where we know reproductive health services are essential to comprehensive health care, and believe legal, safe, voluntary abortion care should be available to all in need regardless of who they work for, how much they earn or what state they live in.

Loretta Ross is a clarion voice for reproductive justice and human rights. Her own experiences with traumas which disproportionately affect women of color ignited her activism as a first year student at Howard University. In addition to being one of the Mothers of Reproductive Justice, Loretta was the founder of the National Center for Human Rights Education, and the national program director of the National Black Women鈥檚 Health Project. She was also the National Coordinator of the SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective, and a听

Loretta is a professor at Smith College in the Program for the Study of Women and Gender, and has co-written three books on reproductive justice: Undivided Rights: Women of Color Organize for Reproductive Justice (2004); Reproductive Justice: An Introduction (2017); Radical Reproductive Justice: Foundations, Theory, Practice, Critique (2017), and her newest book, . This March the 蜜芽appAbortion Care & Reproductive Health Project invites 蜜芽appmembers to join in celebrations that honor the vital work of abortion care providers, acknowledge the challenges they face, and shower them with gratitude, appreciation, and love.听

Mini-grants between $100-$250 are available to 蜜芽appmembers and chapters to support local gatherings and actions during March. Grants can support action supplies, thank you card postage, food and beverages at celebrations. Action sample ideas include: thank yous posted to Instagram @AMSAnational – ; thank you calls or postcards to supportive policy makers (we can provide mailing addresses and phone numbers), other ideas? Be creative!
